Hikidashi gathers your clipboard, screenshots, screen recordings and downloads into one timeline. It holds what you copied, not just a note that you copied it, so this page says exactly what is kept and what is not.

Nothing Hikidashi records leaves your Mac. There is no account, no server, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no third-party SDK of any kind.

What is kept

The following is stored on this Mac.

  • The text you copied, in full. Text containing Japanese also keeps a reading, so it can be searched in romaji (the first 200 characters).
  • The image you copied, as it was. Anything whose long edge is over 4096px is reduced to that before it is stored.
  • The absolute path of a file you copied. The file itself is not duplicated.
  • The source app’s name and identifier, and its icon.
  • For screenshots, screen recordings and downloads: the file name, absolute path, size, duration, resolution and dates. The file itself is not duplicated. For the picture shown in the list, screenshots and downloaded images also keep a PNG reduced to 800px on the long edge.
  • Snippets you kept yourself.
  • Copy counts, the date an entry was last used, and the favorite mark.
  • Settings: how much to keep, which folders to watch, which apps to exclude, the key assignments.

What is not kept

The following is not merely unsaved — it does not exist in the app at all.

  • Copies from a password manager. Password managers attach a "do not store" marker to what they put on the clipboard (org.nspasteboard.ConcealedType and its siblings), and a copy carrying one is dropped before it is recorded. Apple’s Passwords app, which sets no marker, is on the exclusion list from the start.
  • Anything copied while an app you excluded is frontmost. The list takes as many as you like.
  • What you type. All the summon gesture receives is the system’s notice that a modifier — option, command, shift, control — changed state. Character keys are not received.
  • Where you pointed, what the frontmost window contained, the screen itself. There is no path in the app that obtains them.
  • Any record of network traffic. The app makes no connections, so there is no destination and no log.

Where it is kept

All of it is one SQLite file inside the app’s own sandbox container (~/Library/Containers/com.hikidashi.app/Data/Library/Application Support/com.hikidashi.app/hikidashi.db). Nothing is written outside it, and no other app can read it.

Access to the watched folders — Downloads and the folders you choose — is read-only. Hikidashi never modifies or moves a file of yours.

Deleting it

  • One entry: select it in the drawer and press ⌘X. All of the clipboard history: Settings > History > Delete clipboard history.
  • How many entries to hold (0–10,000) and for how long (30 days, 90 days, or forever) are settings. Anything past a limit is removed on its own; rows you marked as favorites are exempt from that.
  • Deleting the app removes its container and everything in it.

Permissions

  • The summon key needs no permission. The double tap of the option key is noticed through the system’s notice that a modifier changed state.
  • On macOS 15.4 and later, reading what another app copied requires Hikidashi to be set to Allow under Paste from Other Apps in System Settings > Privacy & Security. You can withdraw it at any time there.
  • Downloads is read without choosing anything. To put screenshots and screen recordings in the history, you choose the folder macOS saves them to. Access to that folder is held through a macOS security-scoped bookmark, so it survives a restart and reaches that folder only.
  • Either can be left ungranted. Without Paste from Other Apps, copies are not recorded; without a chosen folder, screenshots and screen recordings do not appear in the list.
  • Hikidashi never connects to anything. It declares com.apple.security.network.client because macOS will not start WebKit’s helper processes without it.

Purchases

Payment is processed by Apple through the App Store. Hikidashi itself receives no personal information about you.

This policy governs for Hikidashi. For how information collected in connection with an app purchase or an enquiry is handled, see Senchan Company’s privacy policy.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL.
